We attended a meeting with the liberal-democrat statesman Paddy Ashdown at Thornbury Leisure Centre this evening. Paddy came over as a thoroughly likeable person with a vision of The Big Picture which seems to be blurred in too many politicians today
His speech ranged from the financial crisis, globalisation, political structures and global warming.
He answered a range of complex questions from an enthusiastic audience. A representative from SANE asked him "In this era of global warming what would be Paddys ideal energy policy.
He said he had been anti-nuclear for forty years, and even though the argument is more balanced now, he is still against nuclear energy.
He said that if £10 billion was spent on a nuclear energy plant or £10billion spent on energy awareness latest figures he has read said that the energy efficiency offer would be three times more efficient.
Thanks to Steve Webb MP for bringing such a top class speaker to Thornbury, and thanks to Paddy for turning up given that he was double booked. You are welcome anytime.
