Hitachi- from the country that brought the world Fukushima
We feel very sad for the people of Japan who want to end nuclear energy whilst a potential new government and big business are desperate for it

No Fukushima at Oldbury

Our campaign against new nuclear at Shepperdine, Nr Oldbury-on Severn steps up

Today we have launched our new dedicated website http://www.shepperdineagainstnuclearenergy.org.uk/ and issued the following announcement:

Shepperdine Against Nuclear Energy, have campaigned vehemently against the Government’s plans for a new third generation nuclear power station since the Government told them they considered their location suitable last year.

The proposed new generation of power stations are simply not suitable in this location, local councils and our MP agree with us, but no one seems to be listening. Our group is therefore stepping up the campaign; we simply can not allow this to go ahead. It makes no sense whatsoever to build this monster here, there are far too many reasons why the site is simply not suitable, not least being the fact that it is on the flood plain of the River Severn and the highest risk category of flood zone!

With the consultation recently launched by Horizon, the JV company run by E.ON and RWE npower, who plan to build the new station and the prospect of yet another Government consultation expected later this month, is now dedicated to raising the public’s understanding of the real issues at stake.

Today we have launched a new dedicated web site where people can find out more about the group, our concerns about the proposal and provide the latest news and updates. The web link for the new website is www.shepperdineagainstnuclearenergy.org.uk.

At the same time the group has printed a new 4 page leaflet, copy attached, and will be distributing it widely in the area over the next 2 weeks.

Come and see the monstrous proposals for yourself at Horizon’s exhibition at the Memorial Hall in Oldbury today and then come and talk to us outside the exhibition, where we will be handing out leaflets.

We plan to hand out our leaflet outside all of Horizon’s exhibitions this week and talk to anyone interested about our concerns. People need to know the real picture, not the glossy patter of Horizon’s sales team.

Reg Illingworth says "We as SANE continue to be the major source for our community of the true information of the effects of Horizon Nuclear Powers plans both for today and for the many generations to follow us."
