Hitachi- from the country that brought the world Fukushima
We feel very sad for the people of Japan who want to end nuclear energy whilst a potential new government and big business are desperate for it

No Fukushima at Oldbury

No to Fukushima at Shepperdine!

Horizon own too little land to build at Shepperdine!

I recently made a visit to North Wales, close to Wylfa, where Horizon are planning their first new nUKe plant and learn't some very interesting information!

Horizon own approx 250 hectares at Wylfa and are in the process of buying more....because they need more for the development.....Horizon own approx 150 hectares in and around Shepperdine and are not buying anymore land !

Given that the developments are both going to have two or three reactors surely they both need the same infrastructure area?

This government claims that the suitable sites should be ready by 2025, but given Horizon do not own sufficient land at Shepperdine to develop how could this ever be possible.

I must state that the people of SANE remain committed to helping the people of Wylfa, Hinkley and Sizewell in their objections to new nuclear.

  1. Have wondered about this for a while. They need a much BIGGER site at shepperdine as they will need these massive cooling towers (whether hybrid or gravity) and dont need these for Wylfa. No doubt about it they will need much much more land than the 150 hectares they already own! Guess they are planning on Compulsory Purchasing another 100 plus hectares of land :( Not sure but think this makes it very difficult for the NPS to nominate Oldbury. Hmmm wonder if DECC know about this?

  2. Did you also know that EDF own a strip of land that Horizon need to build Wylfa. They will only release it when they get consent to build Hinkley. So EDF have Horizon by the balls!

  4. Interesting ... Horizon will no doubt wait until the site is formally nominated in the NPS. Once this happens local property values will drop because of the blight as a result of the NPS and they can then storm in and buy it all up cheaply using their usual sneaky tactics threatening compulsory purchase orders ete etc. SNEAKY!
