Tim Proudler' s response to an email sent to him only yeaterday! (well done Tim!) is as follows:-
Happy New Year to you also.
The preliminary ground investigation we undertook last year was the first phase in a staged programme of ground investigation which we intend to carry out. The timing and scope of the next stage is currently being considered. We will however keep the parish council and community informed of our plans once we know more.
As regards the drilling depth, Hydrocks’ equipment was able to drill to the depth required. The new power station foundations would be constructed by excavating through the soft alluvium layers to the underlying Mercia Mudstone rock in a similar way to the existing station. The preliminary ground investigations verified the thickness of the alluvium, the depth of the various layers of the Mercia Mudstone, the groundwater regime and the properties of the soils and rock. This information will allow us now to undertake some conceptual foundation design work. The next stage of more detailed ground investigation is likely to be developed around a specific site layout.
Hope this helps,
Tim Proudler
