We feel very sad for the people of Japan who want to end nuclear energy whilst a potential new government and big business are desperate for it

Frustrated from Locking

Nuclear madness
W HY are we being held over a barrel by a Government that wants to open more nuclear power plants?

If the Thatcher Government had not shut the mines down we would not be buying expensive fuel from abroad. All she wanted to do was crush the unions at Great Britain's expense.

Why are we all not being asked to have our own wind turbines on all our properties and why are there not more wind turbines in North Somerset? Forget "old Mr Bellamy" who has had his life, think of all our own children and grandchildren who care about our environment.

When I lived in Devon there was wind turbine installed in Bradworthy and Cornwall has several around the Wadebridge area and an area near Launceston.

We are being forced to accept nuclear and why has the Severn barrage been halted? I am sure the world's gone mad. First of all we are told how dangerous Sellafield is, now they want to build more!

I was in Berlin last week and can confirm that last Thursday, a very windy evening in Germany, the wind power industry contributed 50% of the energy demands.

Germany is at least 15 years ahead of the UK.....with commitment and endeavour we can narrow the gap.

  1. The German Wind Energy Association website states that 7% of Germany's net electricity consumption comes from wind power, so I find it unlikely that wind power would be able to deliver 50% of their electricity demand. Were you referring to Berlin's requirements alone?

  2. I'm absolutely amazed at this! I'm investigating installing a wind turbine on the land my father has in Perthshire and wonder if I could power 50% of Scotland energy needs from my wind far on a windy night as all of the manufacturers tell me that I need to disconnect their gearbox if it gets too windy as it can damage the gears etc. If you can put me in the direction of the source of your 50% claim I'd be delighted to look into this. I also notice that Germany as currently passing legislation to extend the life of its nuclear power plants by 10-15 years. A very good decision as they, like the UK, need a balanced energy mix with reliable base load power generation as well as renewables, clean coal etc.
