That this House calls upon the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change to suspend all steps he has taken to facilitate a new build nuclear power programme and permission for the lifetime extension of some existing operational nuclear power plants until a full, independent evaluation has been conducted on the long-term implications for the safety and cost of nuclear power in the wake of the nuclear accidents in Japan.

Caroline Lucas (Brighton, Pavilion): To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, whether he has requested the chief nuclear safety inspector to conduct a review of the measures in place to mitigate a loss of coolant accident, in respect of (a) operating and (b) planned nuclear power plants in the UK; and what advice he has sought on the implications for the UK nuclear power programme of the nuclear accidents in Japan.
